What We Do

blueballoon specializes in providing services to address a multitude of challenges that children and their families with a broad range of issues face

Motor Development: Meeting milestones such as rolling and walking; self-care activities critical for daily living, such as grooming and toileting; visual motor skills integral for writing; motor planning and sequencing skills to help children master new activities, such as riding a bike.

Social Emotional Development:
Problems with attention, concentration, high activity level, impulsivity (ADHD), anxiety, depression, obsessions or compulsions, emotional or behavioural regulation, relationship with parents, social skills, peer relationships or bullying problems, as well as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Neuro-Developmental Disorders.

Academic Progress: The identification of (intellectual) gifted as well as psycho-educational assessments to address problems at school, including: not meeting academic expectations for grade/age, having learning or behaviour problems, being resistant or afraid to attend school.

Speech-Language Development:
Challenges with speech, language, social interaction or swallowing/feeding; articulation delay/disorder; oral motor disorders; voice disorders (e.g. vocal nodules, hoarse voice); language development (e.g. use of vocabulary, grammar, understanding of language); social interaction (e.g. eye contact, turn-taking, conversational skills, initiation of communication with peers).

Sensory Integration: Difficulties with sensory modulation, being under/over-responsive to sensory input/experiences (sensory seeking or avoiding touch, movement, sounds), challenges with the regulation of attention, difficulties with motor development, problems developing ideas for play and then planning and executing the necessary motor actions.

Behaviour:
Difficulty toilet training, bedtime and sleeping problems, challenges related to following routines of daily living, frequent meltdowns or temper tantrums, oppositional or defiant behaviour, impulsivity and hyperactivity (ADHD), rule-breaking and antisocial behaviour.

Support for Families: Counselling parents of children with special needs on issues such as coming to terms with their child’s diagnosis, coping with the child’s disabilities and advocating for their child. Consultation and coaching is also provided to support and develop parent management strategies and foster positive parent-child relationships.
